When refinishing a piece of furniture, the finish is either repaired or removed completely and refinished with a new one. This process is called “Stripping“ and it consists of using methylene chloride to strip the furniture back down to bare wood. The furniture is then sanded with low-grit sandpaper to help it better accept the stain or finish that will be applied. Later in the process, it is sanded again with higher-grit sandpaper to maximize the smoothness of the final finish.
Paint, lacquer, and varnish are just some of the finishes that can be used or altered during the refinishing process. Almost all of our pieces are sealed with a clear coat lacquer at the end of the process to lock in the finish and create a strong, durable surface that withstands scratches, watermarks, and everyday use. The primary purpose of furniture refinishing is to restore or change the appearance of a piece while extending its beauty and functionality.

I inherited a small vintage chair covered in a now delicate upholstery with wooden legs. One of the legs broke at the base. William was able to repair the chair and attach the upholstery while I waited. My travel time was over 30 minutes one way. I was thrilled to not have to make a trip again to pick up the chair. As well, the chair looks like it was never broken. The price was extremely reasonable and fair. I will choose Furniture Refinishing Services again with my next treasure.
